Description: SINK THE SHIP: Divide the class into two teams and have the teams sit along the sides of the gym floor. Place the folding mats flat along the sidelines, this will be known as the SHIP. Place 20 bowling pins on top of each ship (the mats). The scooters are known as the life boats, and the students wearing the life jackets (jerseys) are the only students allowed in the ocean (the space between the two ships). The remaining students must stay behind their ships (the mats). Place all the cannon balls (foam balls) in the ocean. On the signal the students on the life boats must retrieve the cannon balls out of the ocean and give it to their team. The students on the ship try to throw the cannon balls across the ocean and hit their opponents bowling pins on their ship. Once all the bowling pins are knock down, the ship as been sunk and the game is called. Change out life jackets after each round. |

Description: This is ten bowling stations. Students travel to each station and try to knock down as many bowling pins as they can. They keep track of their score on their score sheet. If they finish all the stations and still have time left they can go back and try to get a better score at that station. Our students love this and it keeps them very busy. |

Description: Students each guard a bowling pin. The objective of the game is to throw dodgeballs to knock down other students bowling pins. When a student has their pin knocked down, they go to the end of a short line and the first person in line goes to that tipped over pin. Students can leave their pin but if it gets knocked over while they are picking up dodgeballs they are out. Also, if a student knocks down their own pin they are out. |

Description: This is a great bowling activity. Students get money for bowling. If they get a strike they get $20 and if they get a spare they get $15. They get $1 for each pin they knock down. After knocking down the pins they go see the banker to get their money. We remind students to exchange money for bigger bills. |

Description: Rube Goldberg was a famous 1920s cartoonist who contrived inventions to execute a simple task. We brought that idea to our bowling unit. Each group of students is given different types of equipment to construct a series of reactions starting by the bowling ball and ending in knocking down at least one pin. Creativity, action and reaction, and collaboration are vital to the success of the process and product of this activity. The students are graded on how many different types of equipment used, amount of reactions, the outcome, and the diagram drawn of what is seen in the gym. If you interested in the grading rubric, please feel free to contact me at jkieronski@glenview34.org. |

Description: Make up teams with each person getting a #1,#2,#3,#4 etc... The team starts with their hand frozen to the wall. The teacher calls out a number. That person lets go of the wall and sprints down and knocks down their 10 pins anyway but soccer kicking. After knocking all 10 pins down they return back to their team by touching the wall to unfreeze them. They all then race down reset the pins in a standing position and try to be the first group to finish, second, and third place. I also play a version where they race against the clock. Starting at 45 seconds, second round 40 seconds, etc....if they can make it to 20 seconds I then go to 19 seconds. |

Bowling Warm Ups and Punch Cards Posted by: liz
Description: Bowling techniques are integrated into warm ups. Students stay excited all week while using bowling pin punch cards. Each bowling pin card has numbers on it. They can get a number punched out by me if they meet certain criteria, can say what they bowled and explain a certain bowling technique that we have reviewed: strike, spare, leaving one pin up, split, follow through, hang loose, thumb to the pin, etc. I start by using 3 pins, 5 pins, 7 pins and then 0 pins throughout the week while using. |
