Slapball with a twist

Posted by: Cheryl Matthews/Joel Dagenhart

Description: You will need at least 6 different colored balls, 6 poly spots with exercises on them that match the 6 balls and at least 1 "different" ball to be used as a bonus ball. When the game begins everyone moves around the gym and slaps a ball. If the ball hits you you go to the poly spot that matches the color ball that hit you. You do the exercise on the spot 10 times and then enter the game again. If you get hit with the "other" ball you do another activity...ie...run 2 laps and then enter the game again. This is a great game and the kids love it...they never stop moving! Give it a try! I think you will like it! If you don>t have the poly spots with exercises on them you can make your own or use laminated construction paper and put it on the wall.

Spelling Relay

Posted by: Jeff Casey

Description: Equipment needed: 20 sets of lower case alphabet letters of all different colors. They are 4 inches in height and pasted on black construction paper and laminated.

You will also need "High Frequency Words" that are grade level appropriate or a classroom spelling list will do.

Set Up:

Have the class divide up into 3, 4, 5, different relay teams. This will change with your class size.

The teacher will then read off a "High Frequency" word or "Spelling Word" and use it correctly in a sentence. The first student in the relay team will run down and get the first letter of the word and bring it back to their team. The second person will run down and get the second letter and bring it back. This will be repeated until the team feels they have all the letters needed to assemble the word correctly. The team that finishes first is the winner or all teams that assemble the word correctly is the winner.

This can also be played where students have to construct a sentence given to them or each student
