The Evil Empire stand with one foot on the Death Star in the middle of the gym and throw gator balls to try and hit Jedi shoulder or below. If Jedi is hit they have to drop the beanbag where they are…Now it’s a lost planet. This game rocks!! Cat and Mouse

Posted by: LaTanya McIntosh

Description: This is a tagging game, where the students run one lap around the gym with a noodle trying to catch up with the team opposite of them and tag them out. You will need to designate a running space (with cones), have 6 different colored jerseys, and a noodle for each team.
Once you are tagged, take your noodle back to your team, then proceed to the center circle to rest. You may only tag the person who is running in front of you, and you may also include a free round where the students may tag any color that is near them.

Pay Day!!!

Posted by: Linda Slaby

Description: Doesn>t everyone love pay day??? Using cones, mark off a running lane around the playing area. Students jog or run around the perimeter. The teacher stands with pay day money (many denominations of play money). Each time a runner passes the teacher, he/she collects a bill. It may be $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100. Runners collect as many bills as they desire. They may buy equipment with their money, depending on their amount of money possessed or what kind of equipment they desire. For example, stilts can be priced at $150 or a basketball at $90. Inflating prices makes it fun! They can use equipment in a designated area of the gym. I allow them to share money with a partner to buy a special piece of equipment or to just do laps and collect money the entire time. Often students will donate unneeded money back to me. This is a great game for fitness, money handling, financial decisions and specific skill practice.

Trash Can Ball

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

The teams are put at the same distance from the trash can (according to grade level/skill).

Star Trek

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

Description: This is a tag game and incorporates science. Three of the students are meteorites . These 3 students carry a gator ball. Three students are "repair ship," and they hold a hula hoop around them. (The amount of meteorites and repair ships can be changed according to your class size). The students do a locomotor movement such as walking, speed walking, skipping, galloping, etc. When the student is touched by a meteorite , they have to sit down. They are "space ship down". They can only get back in the game when a repair ship comes up to them and says, "space ship up." After playing for a few minutes change out the meteorites and the repair ship.

Treasure Island

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

Description: Divide the class into 14 teams (you can modify it according to your class size). Seven teams are on one side of the gym and seven are on the other part of the gym (vertical ends of a court). Place each team behind a color cone. These are the "Pirate ships". Players line up in a single file line and run out to the middle one at a time from each team to try to steal a piece of treasure from the island. When the pirate makes it back to their cone they place the treasure inside a hula hoop- the pirates> treasure chest. After all the treasures are gone from the middle, the pirates start taking from the other pirate ships. They can only take treasure from the pirate ships across from them (the other side of the gym.) They can not take the treasure from the pirate ships next to them. Which ever team has the most treasure when the music stops, wins a point for their team.

Beat the Clock

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

Description: Students gather in the middle of the gym. A circle marked on the floor works well as a gathering place. The teacher chooses two students to be garbage collectors. They move to a designated starting point on the perimeter of the gym. Meanwhile the teacher has scattered at least 100 items (this depends on your class size…. it could be less or more) throughout the gym. The students are told that they have to pick up all the trash before the garbage collectors make it around the gym 3 times. The students can only pick up one item at a time and place it 2 trashcans.

Skeeter Tag

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

Description: Several students are given swim noodles and are “It.” They hold the noodles on their foreheads so that it looks like a mosquito(Skeeter) stinger, the skeeters move around the play area trying to tag the other players with their stingers. If a student is stung, he/she freezes and yells for help. One student may come to his/her aid by spraying a can of make believe "Deep Woods Off" and shouting "OFF, OFF,OFF". Another version is instead of using the pretend can of "Deep Woods Off", two students can make a bridge with their hands over the frozen student and shout "Off, Off, Off." Skeeters cannot tag students while they are helping.

Berserk

Posted by: Mike Matulis

Description: This is a game involving three teams each in competition for points.

Red Team (Humanoids) Yellow Team (Humanoids) Blue Team (Robots)

The Humanoids can score points by maneuvering through the maze and throwing their own color ball through a hula-hoop which is hanging from a basketball hoop. After scoring a point the Humanoid can then continue to score only by again traversing through the maze and throwing their ball through the hula-hoop on the opposite end of the Gym.
Humanoids may also use their ball to eliminate robots and humanoids that are not on their team.

Robots are on defense and are trying to protect their planet from the Humanoids. Robots score points every time they tag a humanoid with a blue foam noodle. Robots are not allowed to pick up any of the humanoids red or yellow foam balls.

One orange foam ball will be hidden within the maze. Any player from all three teams may use the orange ball to eliminate other team’s players.

Ultimate Survivor

Posted by: Todd Reed

Description: I wanted to find a way to unite my students in a manner that promoted fitness while in the process eleminating social barriers. I then formed the game ultimate survivor with the objective in mind that students would complete tasks connected together by way of velcro, a rope, and a belt.

The outcome has exceeded my expectations with all students not only responding positively towards the game but each other. Ultimate Survivor will allow your students to strategize and work together for one common goal to be the ultimate survivor.

When the game begins students can take one beanbag at a time and run it across the gym and place it in one of the milk crates. Taggers are standing on different lines of the gymnasium with a tagging noodle that represent the difficulties associated with delivering papers (crazy dogs, bad sidewalk, etc.). If a paper boy is tagged they have to switch spots with the tagger.
