Scooter Basketball

Posted by: Rebekah Inmon

Description: Equipment: Scooters for everyone, soft ball, two chairs to hold the buckets, two buckets, scarves, & floor tape. A jump ball starts the game, the ball can only be passed and the player holding the ball is not allowed to move. All other players not holding the ball can move. I put a box around the bucket with floor tape so that the kids know how close they can get. No one is allowed in the box not even to defend. Once a shot is taken, rather made or not, the other team gets the ball.

Winter Olympic Stations

Posted by: Candy Thompson

Description: Students celebrate 4 Winter Olympic events:
Curling - Students take turns pushing each other to see which team gets the closest scooter to the target.
Ice Dancing - Students create routines with partners or small groups while skating on carpet squares.
Skeleton - Two students at a time race across the gym while lying prone on 2 connected scooters. We use a round robin tournament format to determine the racing order. When not racing, other group members act as starters and finish-line judges.
Hockey - Students take turns shooting pucks at 2 sides of a box hockey box. Students keep shooting the same puck until it goes through an opening in the goal. Then, they get a new puck to shoot.

Scooter Warm-Up

Posted by: Steve Hack

Description: SCOOTER WARM-UP
Equipment that you need. 1 scooter for every 2 students. How to play: As the students enter the gym have them start jogging. Their job as they are jogging is to find a partner. Once the teacher sees everyone has a partner stop them and have them sit. As the students are sitting explain the warm up. Before they can get a scooter everyone must take 2 more laps. Once they have a scooter one person gets to ride and the other person pushes. There are 3 safety rules. 1. NO SPEEDING 2. NO CRASHING 3. NO LETTING GO. I have found these 3 rules takes care of the majority of the problems. Kids love it, have fun.
