Hot Spotz

Posted by: Todd Reed

Description: Hot Spotz is a fast paced game that involves dribbling, shooting, and most important team work. All students are active participants cooperatively working with their team to gain the most points by collecting Hot Spotz from around the basket.

My students are motivated by not only the instant gratification of collecting a Hot Spotz on a made basket but that they can shoot and be successful according to their skill level with Spotz of varying levels of difficulty. The shot selection is up to the individual from several feet from the basket to three point shots.

I hope you to have great success implementing Hot Spotz into your physical education program.

Look for my future addition of Hot Spotz as a tournament.

Hot Spotz Tournament

Posted by: Todd Reed

Description: If you have larger class sizes Hot Spotz Tournament is a team oriented game that will motivate and challenge your students putting their shooting skills to the test. In my earlier video "Hot Spotz" I explained the point value of the polyspots, small cones, and large cones are according to their distance from the basket.
-Polyspots Key Area
-Small Cones between the three point line and key area
-Large Cones are located around the three point line.

Students love the immediate recognition of making a hot spotz and bringing it back to their team for a chance at being the top shooting team in the class. Students are only three to a team, so students are actively engaged with little wait time in line.

Round one is played in the video to recognize the top shooting team from each court. Those teams will play on one designated court to crown the top shooting for a round two playoff. All other teams remain playing on other courts. In the video 16 teams are playing and in the end one team will be the c

Flag Tag

Posted by: Theresa Sisk

Description: This is a very acitve game that keeps everyone involved. There are 3 ways to win this game.
1. Students throw gator skin balls at the opposing teams tennis balls to try and knock them off of the cones.(There are 5 tennis balls on top of cones)
2. You may also win by sneaking across and stealing the other teams flag. If tagged by the opposing team they must go to jail. To get out of jail a teammate may make it across safetly and then take them back to their side.
3. The other way to win is to get all of the opposing team in jail or sitting down. To get someone to sit down you have to catch a ball. Each team chooses a magic person before the game begins. The magic person can touch a teammates head that is sitting down to get them back up and into the game. If the magic person is down they stay down until the game is over.

Tinikling Lions of New Caney

Posted by: Patricia Savage

Description: This rhythmic dance activity includes 4-5 students at each set of poles. Students jump inside and outside the poles while learning 5 steps: Bamboo Hop, Cross-Over, Bleking, Straddle, Straddle Turn. Students help others learn the steps then create their own routines. The poles are "knocked" on a three count rhythm - in - out - out! After the 5 introductory steps are taught, then we double cross the poles and have the students jump 4 at a time in the poles. This activity is great for aerobic endurance because the students jump, and jump, and jump and their heart rate goes up and they are having fun while getting exercise. Social interaction with each other in their group is awesome as they teach each other and help one another to learn the dance steps.

Star Trek

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

Description: This is a tag game and incorporates science. Three of the students are meteorites . These 3 students carry a gator ball. Three students are "repair ship," and they hold a hula hoop around them. (The amount of meteorites and repair ships can be changed according to your class size). The students do a locomotor movement such as walking, speed walking, skipping, galloping, etc. When the student is touched by a meteorite , they have to sit down. They are "space ship down". They can only get back in the game when a repair ship comes up to them and says, "space ship up." After playing for a few minutes change out the meteorites and the repair ship.

Treasure Island

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

Description: Divide the class into 14 teams (you can modify it according to your class size). Seven teams are on one side of the gym and seven are on the other part of the gym (vertical ends of a court). Place each team behind a color cone. These are the "Pirate ships". Players line up in a single file line and run out to the middle one at a time from each team to try to steal a piece of treasure from the island. When the pirate makes it back to their cone they place the treasure inside a hula hoop- the pirates> treasure chest. After all the treasures are gone from the middle, the pirates start taking from the other pirate ships. They can only take treasure from the pirate ships across from them (the other side of the gym.) They can not take the treasure from the pirate ships next to them. Which ever team has the most treasure when the music stops, wins a point for their team.

Scooter Soccer

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

Description: Students split into 2 teams. One team sits on the sideline of the basketball court and the other teams sits on the opposite sideline. The teams face each other. Seven players from each team get a scooter board. You could play more players from each team if you have more scooters. The seven players face each other from the back line of the basketball court and the game begins when the whistle is blown. The seven players can only use their feet to kick the ball. If they use their hands, a point goes to the other team. The object of the game is to have the ball hit the hanging mats at the end of the gym. The teams that are sitting on the sidelines are also active. They are the "bumpers." Their legs should be out and they can help kick the ball to their teammates when it comes to them. If they touch it with their hands, a point goes to the other team. If they leave the sideline they are sitting on, a point goes to the other team.

Beat the Clock

Posted by: Terri O'Bryant

Description: Students gather in the middle of the gym. A circle marked on the floor works well as a gathering place. The teacher chooses two students to be garbage collectors. They move to a designated starting point on the perimeter of the gym. Meanwhile the teacher has scattered at least 100 items (this depends on your class size…. it could be less or more) throughout the gym. The students are told that they have to pick up all the trash before the garbage collectors make it around the gym 3 times. The students can only pick up one item at a time and place it 2 trashcans.
