Frisbee and Volleyball Activities posted by: Mike Hooks on 03/11/09
Frisbee Horseshoes Get the Flash Player to see this player. This game is similar to horseshoes, but it involves more aerobic activity. You may set the hula hoops at a farther distance or shorter if you would like. This is a great game for a frisbee golf or ultimate frisbee unit. As you can see in the video, the participants did a lot of running. You may want to consider playing like this too: give students 1 minute. Whoever throws the most in successfully wins the round.
Frisbee Tossback Get the Flash Player to see this player. This is a great partner activity. It's similar to the classic egg or water balloon toss, except this is with a frisbee. Each time a partner catches the frisbee, he or she should take one step back. The partners with the long successful throw and catch wins. Note: When playing outside, wind can definitely affect the frisbee in the air. This is a great accuracy activity and works on catching.
Frisbee Golf Get the Flash Player to see this player. This is a variation of Frisbee Golf. Metal baskets cost a lot of money and sometimes we are limited in funding (thanks to Gopher, we can afford to make improvements in our programs!!), but with this modification, classes can play Frisbee Golf anywhere. Instead of throwing to metal baskets, our students play to objects. Usually objects may include: trees, signs, rails, cones, trash cans, etc. In this video, there are cones and hula hoops set up. Typically, we throw from the hula hoops for the first 9 holes, and then the cones for the back 9. Our students usually play in groups of two or three.
Frisbee Throw and Catch Get the Flash Player to see this player. This is a great lead-up game for ultimate frisbee. This involves speedwork as well as accuracy when throwing a frisbee disc. The object is to throw the frisbee from one endline, sprint, and catch the frisbee before it lands. The next thrower has to throw and catch it at the same distance or farther in order to tie or win the round. Each win is worth 1 point. 7 points makes a game. This is a great activity for students to learn the importance of not throwing too high or too low.
V-O-L-L-E-Y-B-A-L-L Spell Drill Get the Flash Player to see this player. This is a fun activity that can be used as a game or in stations. You can use more than two people for this activity, but two is what we used for our demonstration. It is important to teach the correct cues for passing before doing this activity. For elementary kids, this will work on spelling, multi-tasking, and I would recommend using a beachball or balloon. 1 user gave this an average rating 5/5
