Help PLEASE! I'm a new teacher. By new I mean, I didn't go to school for education, but am filling a need at a SMALL(80 students pre-k-8th) school in a VERY rural area. I began teaching half way through the year. Classes are 2 times a week. I teach ALL of the grades through the day on a pass/fail basis. I have NOTHING!!!! I've been pulling things out of the air or off the internet the whole time. I need help!!! I don't even know where to begin.

My name is Rich and I teach K-5 PE,  One thing good for the K-2 group is stations.  Put out equipment in 4-6 areas in the gym and have the students rotate to each station. We have 50min. so I do about 4min. at each station.  Rules are you must stay in the designated area for that station and use the equipment only as explained, or sit out a while. Just get some items and at each station practice some skills ie, dribbling, toss and catch, jump rope, really anything as long as it is age appropriate.  Older kids can do stations too. But I like stations on sports skills, like basketball: one station could be passing, one shooting, one dribble, etc,  A coach in the area could give you some good drills.  And like everyone said  watch  some of the  videos.  Last  if all  else  fails just set  up some cones with  about  4 in  each  line  and  do  relays  across  the  gym.  Music  helps!  I will tell the kids go to end of the gym and then come back touch the next person in line, then they go.  Then change up the movement to skip down run back etc.  Also you can have them do something like a jumping jack or two when they get to the other side then comeback.  This is a great warm up for kids every day.  Hope you do OK.  Rich

I'm currently in a class that teaches you how to teach PE and my partner and I taught this lesson a while back and the class had a blast with it. Maybe it will help you?

    *Equipment:
Plastic pop bottle - 1 for each student
    Kickballs - 3

    *Introduction:

Stretches (/find open space where you wont bump into the person next to you)

    Bending and holding 5 seconds

    Arm stretches

    Leg stretches

    *Preparing:

Set up two bottles and have students like up about 15 feet from the body.

Have one student stand beside the bottle(to return the balls) they will alternate as ball roller finishes, he/she will be the ball returner and the ball returner will proceed to the end of the line.

Each student will roll the ball on the ground toward the target (the bottle)

Goal is to knock down the bottle with the ball.

After about 3 times each go on to:

Have receiver stand in front of bottle to guard the ball.

Now, roller will try to knock down the bottle with an optical in their way.

    Practice for about 3 tries

    *Instructions for Game:

    -Rules and safety regulations

    Lesson:
Teams are located on both sides of the center dividing line.

Each student places his/her bottle on the floor and must guard it against anything which might knock it over.

He/she may not touch it. He/she must remain standing.
Teachers introduce the balls into the game, the signal to begin is sounded.
The balls must be rolled underhand across the dividing line at the opposing team's bottles. If a bottle falls down, for any reason, it is placed on the sidelines and its owner goes and sets out on the sidelines.
The winning team is the one with the most bottles still standing at the end of time or if all bottles are down on the other team's side.
Players may entrust their bottles to bottle-sitters /brothers while they get a ball or roll a ball, but they are still responsible if their bottle is toppled in their absence.

    *Play Game:

    -Have fun!

Miss Naomi and Miss Johnna will be the referees, they will conclude who is out of the game.

    *Review

-Go get drink, calm down and sit on the floor Indian style

Discuss what the students learned today, talk about developmental skills learned.

(Defending an object, bowling action, teamwork, responsibility)
