I read this book. I have shared it with every person I know who works with children. I think I have found our next district helath and wellness theme. Thanks for sharing your idea. I cannot wait to pass this video onto the rest of the PE staff.

This lesson looks awesome! I cannot wait to give it a try! Too many of our students unfortunately have not experienced camping, hiking, fishing etc. What a great idea to expose this during Physical Education time. Thank you!

This is so COOL!!!!!!!! I have a couple of questions.
1. How did you get all of the out door equipment? (canoes, kayaks, tents and trees)
2. In the water safety station what are the students identiing? I can't read it because of the movie maker title.
I can't wait to give this try my self! If you could send me the lesson play that you sent to Jerad that would be awesome. This is a ROCK solid lesson.

Outdoor lessons from this point forward are limitless since we have now introduced the concept to the kids. The next large unit will be solely on hiking, how to prepare for a hike, what you can do in emergency situations, etc. We will use centers as well - #1Building a Shelter #2Map Reading/Orienteering #3Hiking Through and Over Obstacles #4Carrying an Injured Hiker #5Animal Tracking #6Preparing your Hiking pack with the essentials.

This is truly an awesome activity and will work great here at my school. We are a blend school that has a environmental charter school within a regular school. I'm always looking for new ways to introduce my students to outdoor activities!

Thanks for the nice comments. We worked with our Librarian and she was able to order "Adventure Books" this past year. We used these books in the tents and also explained that the children could check them out of the Library after we were done using them in the Gym.

Thanks! We're able to accomodate two classes at a time with this set-up. Each side of the gym has the same six centers (12 in all). Our children are well trained on rotating centers and this works well. "Maximum exposure using maximum time" with centers.
