I have always played it as Kyle Lindblom suggested above, "Black Magic", so we pick an object in the gym and the teacher knows the chosen object is the object right after the black colored object - spooky! But great cross-curricular with the state names!I will try that!!!

Once in a while I have classroom gym and we do "Black Magic." Same concept but the students select an object in the room! The solution is that we say something black before the object, for example is it the black tv, no, but it's the next object mentioned!

One more thing.... If the kids want you to guess it on the 1st try the teacher say's that "This one is going to be REALLY tough"... That cue informes the guessing teacher that State #1 is the state the students picked. I haven't played this game in years....but i will today. Thanks!
