Thanks Shannon!

I used this game at the beginning of a bowling unit last semester. I actually had the students practice rolling the ball over rather than throwing it. Later in the semester the students wanted to play again so I allowed throwing. This game is great.

I can't wait to try this game with my 3-5 students! The only thing I had to adapt was the mats. We do not have enough to form ships for both sides, so I will have to use red floor tape. I'll let you know how it goes! Thank you for sharing!!

So I have been playing this game w. my K-3 students this past week and the one thing I am noticing is students who stand or get off the ship to retrieve a ball. Do you have any penalties for these actions??? Otherwise it is working well. Students are enjoying it!!

Good game...modified it a few times to my liking. seperated the battle ships about 5 ft apart...used 4 mats on each side....two with 5 pins, two with four pins, they could be set how they chose on the ship...students could stand up and also could have only one person on each battle ship if they wanted to gaurd or throw, let them know to be careful, and not nock down own pins... that the person could not sit on the ship. Could kick, roll or throw. Scoot back for the bigger kids.

A lot of my games I make up or have learned in college and just modified it fit my needs. I was fortunate enough to have a lot of hands on experience and internships, so I knew exactly what worked and what doesn’t when designing my PE program. Steal away, there’s so many more great game I want to film and post.

Where did you come up with them? Did you create them yourself or find them from a website, another teacher, etc.?

Thanks

Dan,

I don't allow my older kids 2nd - 4th grade stand cause they get too rowdy. Also, by making them stay in one place it allows for the more less aggressive students a chance to play. When I played it standing it would only be the more athletic kids playing. I play this game as young kindergarten, however I do allow my 1st graders and Kinders to stand cause they can't throw as far seated (they still have to stay in the same spot). Let me know if you have any more questions!

I play a game that is similar with my 3-5 graders but gets the kids moving a bit more. We put out 6 mats around the gym, each team is given 10 pins (pringles cans)to set around the perimeter of their mat in any configuration they wish. One person from each teach "swims" the ocean to return balls which are of varying sizes! The kids really like this and they are exhausted when we finish!
