Brief Description

Teaching PE is truly a passion of mine. Helping all kids to excel or at least reach their potential is an ongoing goal of mine. I have been teaching internationally at fully authorized IB schools in Japan, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, and China since 2001. The experience of teaching abroad has been an amazing journey. I have learned so much! I live with my wife, Neila, a school nurse and certified yoga instructor, and my two boys, Eli 8, and Tai 7 in Nanjing, China. My family and I are all Canadian.

created The Sportfolio
Student led conferences are a big part of any IB program. Each year, during these conferences, the students show their parents their best work of the year in each subject area. As the single subjects are an important part of any curriculum, keeping a file of what they do in terms of assessment, reflections, rubrics, and illustrations is filed away into their Sportfolios. The Sportfolio is shown to their parents during student led conferences. Please see video below of the Sportfolio.

created Gymnastics Fun
The short video shows a couple of quick and easy gymnastics roll type games that you can play with your students. The games are safe and require teamwork while not sacrificing technique. I have done the games with grade K-4 and they all enjoy it.

posted Flat Classroom Peer Assessment in PE Via Skype

As technology continues to change our world, using Skype to connect PE classes is a distinct possibility. Having PE classes from different parts of the country or world, for that matter, connect through video conferencing has genuine learning benefits.  I have recently undertaken a project in which my elementary PE department (Nanjing International School) has collaborated with the elementary PE department at the United Nations International School in Hanoi, Vietnam in setting up a flat classroom peer assessment project in our movement composition units. We completed our first rial run of connecting our classes, using Skype, to peer assess one another. Although there were some logistical issues, the lesson went extremely well. To see pictures and video of 2 classes connecting through video conferencing, please view following link. It was a great experience for both stud
