created Elementary Soccer Activities
Here are some activities that I use for soccer. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.   Dribble Thief- Select three students to be it. Give the rest of the class soccer balls and go over the critical cues for dribbling. Have all of the Students begin dribbling the ball. When the music starts the three students without soccer balls (they can only try to get a ball when the music is playing) try to take a ball away from another student. If they succeed that person then must try to take a ball from someone else. Students may not hold the ball with their hands, feet or legs. Stop the music after a minute or two to allow students to slow down their dribbling. Aerobic Soccer Golf- The object for the students is to trap a soccer ball in a hula hoop with the least amount of kicks. This activity is better outside where you can really space out the course. Students should constantly be moving from hole to hole.  You can challenge the students in two different

created Tchoukball - Elementary Edition!
Tchoukball is a fun game, but it is very difficult for students to understand. This results in the classes not enjoying the activity. I have modified the game to make it elementary friendly, and the classes really are excited to play it. It is similar to a handball game.   Divide the class into two teams. Have a tchoukball net on each side of the gym. I use floor tape to create a box where no one is allowed in.  This version of the game is set up like an invasion sport where you have one area to protect and one to score in. I start the game off with a jump ball or rock paper scissors to decide who gets the ball first. When a student has the ball he or she can't move. They must pass the ball to somebody else on their team. The ball goes to the other team if it is dropped, deflected, or intercepted by the other team (like ultimate frisbee).  The object of this game is to throw the ball off of the other team's net and have it hit the floor beyond the crea

created Mario Kart
This is a game that I made up for students in grades K-2. It helps reinforce safe driving on scooters and has students challenging themselves to get as many bean bags as they can. It is a simple game, but the students have fun with it and get a good work out on the scooters. Set up a course using cones (I made a rectangle using dome cones) and have each student get a scooter. You want to try to have an equal amount of different color scooters (4 red, 4 blue, 4 yellow, 4 blue, 4 purple, and 4 orange). Students will sit on their scooters somewhere on the course on the outside of the cones. Place a bag of bean bags or something else easy to carry (index cards for example) that you have a lot of at the starting line. The students travel around the course like in Mario Kart and pick up a bean bag every time they pass the start line (like the boxes in the game). I play music while they are traveling the course. Once the music stops all of the students will freeze. I taped the names o

posted New Group for Sharing Unit and Lesson Plans
I have just created a group on this site called "Unit Plans and Lesson Plans". My goal is to create a forum where we can all share and find ideas and strategies for teaching certain units. Having all of the information in one location for units will make it easier for teachers that are looking for new ideas for their curriculum. Videos already posted on PE Universe can be linked directly into the forum posts. Posts will contain the grade level (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12) and the theme of the lessons/unit (locomotor skills, soccer, team building, etc.) for easy navigation.  We need everyone's help to make this group a successful resource!
