I have some colored folders with pictures of exercises/stretches and # of reps inside that have been laminated over. Students not wearing proper shoes on a particular day are handed the folder when we begin the day's lesson and they do the exercises over and over in an assigned area until class is over. This idea has really cut down on students forgetting their proper PE shoes. I also send home a reminder slip with the student stating which days the student has PE.

I have a sheet that students fill out, have their parents sign and bring back if they can't play in their shoes. They answer about five questions about why they're sitting out, how they feel about it, what game we were playing...etc. I only have them fill out the form if they come and tell me that they'd prefer the alternative assignment rather than play in their shoes. If I can find something else for them to do such as be a score keeeper then I have them do that. I don't have too much of a problem with this though.

I have them wear a pedometer and walk laps for a designated time frame. Using the steps accumulated I have them fill out a worksheet the last 5 minutes. I also send a half sheet not home to parents that states what days of the week they need gym shoes and how many times they have forgotten this semester. Upon forgetting shoes the 3rd time in a semester the student also recieves a "Red Paw". The kids at my school hate getting "Red Paws" and that normally takes care of it.

I give my students an alternate activity walking stairs or jumping jacks for the whole period. If I have a student who I feel is forgetting on purpose because they just don't want to participate, I give them a typed sport packet (3-4 pages- Rules, History of the game, famous athletes, Olympics). Thjey have to copy the whole packet and answer a series of questions about it even if they have to take it home and finish. They usually have their shoes from then on.

If the parents can't afford them I'll make an exception.Usually kids will walk for the class period or give them PE related assignments on paper! This usually helps them remember to bring their shoes!

I have old shoes and socks (I washed them) and the children can choose from them. I started my collection from old discarded shoes that my own kids had outgrown but were nicer than the ones I still wear! ;)

I have them participate as much as their shoes will allow. Often, that means full participation. If the shoes are a safety hazard (flip flops during soccer) then they sit out. If it becomes a constant issue, I'll send a note home.

i have them participate regardless. i'm not their parent, i'm their physical educator. after one PE class, they will learn to wear more comfortable shoes. not having "proper" shoes is not a good enough excuse for me to get out of what i had planned for them. we have a tub of loaners if a child forgot to wear proper shoes and wants to.

I have the student on the first time just walk around the entire peiod and remind them about our tennis shoe rule. On the second time again they walk around but we send a letter home reminding the parents of our rule. I also let the teacher know each time because they help us out a lot on discipline in my school.
