According to (CDC) Center for disease control Obesity rates in the U.S. have increased dramatically over the last 30 years, and obesity is now an epidemic in the United States. Being either obese or overweight increases the risk for many chronic diseases (e.g., heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and stroke). Although diet and exercise are key determinants of weight, environmental factors beyond the control of individuals (including lack of access to full-service grocery stores, high costs of healthy foods, and lack of access to safe places to play and exercise) contribute to increased obesity rates by reducing the likelihood of healthy eating and active living behaviors. The National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and the American Heart Association (AHA) recommend that all elementary school students should participate in 150 minutes per week of PE and that all middle and high school students should participate in 225 minutes of PE per week for the entire school year. On top of that (CDC) says "kids should get at least 60minutes of fitness a day", which is 420 minutes a week. The reality is the many of the kids within the United States are not getting the recommended physical education per week nor are they meeting the daily fitness requirements. With that said educators must not wait for cities and states to mandate more time for PE or expect that kids will be active after school. Instead fitness should be implemented throughout the day giving students and teachers who have no extracurricular fitness activities the oppuurtunity to become more physically fit throughout the school day. It is suggested that PE teachers make an effort to implement fitness exercises within each classroom by connecting with classroom teachers.
