P.E. Requirements

Description

In Texas elementary (K-5) students are required to attend P.E. 135 minutes per week, middle school (6-7) four semesters within three years, and high school reduced from 1.5 credits to 1 credit. We are now required to use FitnessGram to evaluate students grades 3-12, which is awesome. This initiative showed an interest in part of the state in physical education for our students; however this year requirements at the high school level for health ed. and P.E. are being reduced. If students are expected to increase their fitness and p.e. teachers help them in that endeavor, the state needs to support p.e. programs. What do you think about the state requiring improved fitness, yet not providing the support for P.E. programs at the high school level? What are your state's requirements for p.e.?

Our district here in Ohio is now trying to let athletes, cheerleaders, band, and rotc students receive pe credit for their time they put into their extracurriculars.

It is ridiculous I think how p.e. is taken for granted. I know that at the middle school at most districts around the area I live in substitute band for p.e. and I know for a fact that band at that level does not perform any physical activity such as marching. Real p.e. is structured and covers local, state, and national standards. As long as schools prioritize sports and extracurricular activities over physical education, p.e. will not receive the respect it deserves. In addition we as professionals must sell our programs and continue to promote our content area.

Music has had the HP0-J33 next biggest impact. but you have to take some things into account before you incorporate music into your class. by how you described your situation- i highly doubt your kids would respond well to stereotypical PE music- you know...YMCA, Eye of the Tiger, HP0-Y26 blah blah blah. i'm sorry but all that stuff is, in fact, too dated and will not impact their moods the way you want. I play the music they 000-076 like to listen to. i try to stay up to date and i screen the songs thoroughly so there are no explicit lyrics. music has become a sourse of motivation and incentive in my class. and in my experience, 000-104 when working with students from low-ses families, music is a big part of their lives and can impact their mood drastically. hope any of this helps, and good luck.
