In class I do I few things:1) Speed Stacks, cup stacking, kids love it!!2) PE Bingo- I make a PE Bingo card for each student! In each square are questions or activities that they must find a friend to do! After they do it, their friend signs it and tries to get a bingo!3) Friendship Hunt- I have about 20 questions on a paper such as "Who is a good sport?" or "Who has more than 5 people intheir family?" This way they learn about their friends.

At my school last year, there were over 1,000 kids in the school (K-5). Therefore, we were forced to have to use the classroom on many occassions. One thing we did that the kids loved was Aerobic DVDs. We used Denise Austin's Fit Kids and Billy Blanks Tae Bo Kicks for Kids. The kids loved the DVDs and definitely burned some energy as they left the class pouring with sweat. The teachers and admin. loved the idea. Hope this helps.

i'm the same way as sergio. i am rarely stuck in the class for PE, but recess must be inside when it's too cold out, and for eastern iowa, that's most of the winter. so, to ensure they get to release some energy, i've found the best way is to teach them dances, and also let them dance on their own to their favorite music. lala.com allows you to play a song as much as you want for 10 cents...you don't own the mp3 file, however. still, a really cheap way to get the kids favorite music. my students love the casper-slide variation and the cupid shuffle. and if you do those two back to back, i guarantee your kids will work up a good sweat.

Hi Brenda,I have a similar situation and what I like to do when this happens is to use music that involves line dancing. You can make regular dances into line dances like the Chicken Dance, Mexican Hat Dance, Hokey Pokey, and others in which you control the amount of movement required.I hope this helps.Sergio

Hey Brenda, I do these things in doors when the weather is bad here in Florida.Twister; I have different Jingo games (Food, human body, sports -- played just like bingo but pertains to information as described by the topic -- great for p.e.); balloon volleyball, jacks, pick-up-sticks, my cardiac lesson plan with stethoscopes (learn resting HR, exercise HR); smoking presentation/lesson (use of Annie - the smoking doll, small straws to simulate decreased lung volume due to smoking) they also learn to do their lung volume here; juggling scarves, yoga, ribbons. These are the ones from the top of my head. If you need clarification on any, just let me know. I teach K-5th grade. I know it will be harder with the older kids especially if you have a large class and no room. Also, supplies can be a factor. If all are not actively involved then discipline can be a problem. Andrea
